Vogue hunts america's next style stars – no influencers allowed
Forget the curated feeds and algorithm-driven aesthetics. Vogue is embarking on a nationwide search for authentic style, bypassing the usual influencer circuit to find the individuals who genuinely define American Fashion today.

A casting call unlike any other
The magazine, in partnership with writer Biz Sherbert, has launched “American Style x Vogue,” an open casting call seeking out compelling personal style from every corner of the United States. This isn't about replicating trends; it’s about discovering the unique narratives woven into clothing choices—the stories behind the looks.
From March 25th to April 1st, aspiring applicants between 18 and 30 can submit photos, a short video, and a detailed questionnaire through the Vogue app’s Open Casting Portal. There’s no cost to enter, a refreshing change from the often-expensive world of Fashion modeling. The prize? A feature in a Vogue.com editorial, offering a platform to showcase individual style to a global audience. But a word of caution: the submitted visuals – those photos and videos – are fair game for inclusion in the story and across Vogue’s social media channels.
The guidelines are straightforward, if a little exacting. Vogue stresses the importance of high-quality, well-lit images with simple backgrounds. Ditch the filters and text overlays. While outdoor settings are encouraged, selfies are discouraged; a shot taken by a friend or a self-timer is preferred. The key, above all, is authenticity: images should reflect your current personal style, not an idealized or manufactured version.
The move signals a shift in Vogue’s approach, possibly a reaction to the oversaturation of pre-packaged influencer content. While brand collaborations and celebrity endorsements remain a cornerstone of the magazine’s identity, this initiative suggests a desire to reconnect with the grassroots of style—the individuals who shape trends from the ground up. The question now is: will genuine style triumph over the polished veneer of the digital age?
