Shona Manderson, a contestant from Married At First Sight UK, has taken to Instagram to share her reasons for speaking out about her experience on the reality show.

Alleging non-consensual sex

In a new Panorama documentary, Manderson accused her on-screen husband, Bradley Skelly, of a non-consensual sex act. She claimed he ejaculated inside her without her consent, prompting her to obtain the morning-after pill.

Skelly's lawyers responded, stating that he was not wearing a condom but understood Manderson had consented to him ejaculating inside her. Skelly himself denied any allegations of sexual misconduct, insisting their relationship was based on mutual consent, care and affection.

Manderson and Skelly were eventually removed from the experiment, and she discovered she was pregnant. She underwent an abortion, saying it was a difficult decision.

In her Instagram posts, Manderson explained she initially found it terrifying to speak out but felt silence would be heavier. She chose to participate in the documentary to contribute to a wider conversation around welfare and positive change for reality TV contestants.

Manderson also criticized the financial support offered to contestants, suggesting there's room for stronger processes, more in-depth checks, clearer support, and accountability. She hopes future contestants feel empowered to speak up and know their voices matter.
