Flowerovlove opens up about her black beauty rituals
For the latest installment of Cosmopolitan Black Beauty Hub's Little Black Beauty Book franchise, we sat down with singer-songwriter Joyce Cisse, better known as Flowerovlove, to discuss her go-to Beauty products, tips, and treatments.
Flowerovlove's definition of black beauty
When asked what Black Beauty means to her, Flowerovlove responded, 'Black Beauty immediately just takes me to the incredible Black women who have graced this earth before us, like Diana Ross, Grace Jones, Minnie Riperton – all those beautiful women. They are what has been displayed of Black beauty. But Black beauty to me means family, it means motherhood, it means Africa, and it's so funny, it also means like the smell of cocoa butter.'

Her hair wash day routine
Flowerovlove revealed that she doesn't actually wash her hair very often, preferring to let it bathe in its natural oils. She does wash it occasionally, though, using rosemary and hibiscus water that she prepares herself. 'Wash day for me is really fun because it's when I finally get to release the stress and the tension from my head, because our hair holds so much energy and stress,' she explained.

Her views on hair salons
Flowerovlove confessed that she rarely visits hair salons, citing discomfort with stylists handling her hair. 'I just don't do well with hairdressers,' she admitted. 'I don't like people all up in my hair and in my space, even on shoots sometimes.'
Her favorite skincare product
When it comes to skincare, Flowerovlove swears by coconut oil, which she uses as a natural moisturizer. 'It's under £5 and the only thing I use,' she said proudly.
Body treatments she loves
Flowerovlove is also a fan of lymphatic drainage massages, describing them as 'life-changing.' She recommends getting one at least once, citing the beneficial effects it has on her overall well-being.
Beauty splurges
While Flowerovlove sticks to her natural, budget-friendly beauty routine, she does have a few higher-end splurges. These include her Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and a head massage tool for hair growth.
Her cheapest beauty obsession
Despite her more expensive indulgences, Flowerovlove's cheapest beauty obsession is actually a humble £4 product: Black Jamaican castor oil, which she uses to nourish her eyebrows and eyelashes.
Must-have makeup item
For makeup, Flowerovlove relies on her Glossier lip liner. 'I love a lip liner,' she confessed, explaining that it helps define her look.
