Grand seiko's ushio 300 diver makes a splash

Grand Seiko is known for its breathtaking nature-inspired dial designs, and for good reason. The brand's 'Shunbun' and 'Snowflake' models are fan favorites, boasting depth and detail that immediately convey quality and craftsmanship. However, these stunning visual masterpieces often overshadow the incredible timekeeping prowess within.

Enter the spring drive movement

Grand Seiko's proprietary Spring Drive caliber offers the best of both worlds, combining the allure of a mechanical mainspring with the precision of electronic regulation and quartz oscillation. The most standard Spring Drive movement will gain or lose around 15 seconds per month. But last year, the brand upped the ante with the Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2, earning the 'U.F.A.' (ultra fine accuracy) designation with an accuracy of plus or minus 20 seconds per year.

This year, Grand Seiko shrunk that movement to create the Caliber 9RB1, powering the Ushio 300 diver that debuted today. As part of the Evolution 9 series, this 40.8mm timepiece is the most accurate dive watch in the Grand Seiko lineup and the smallest in size.

Constructed from high-intensity titanium 30% stronger than steel but with a lustrous finish, the Ushio 300 is water-resistant to 300 meters and features an 18mm extender for use with a wetsuit, alongside a 6mm, three-step micro-adjuster. indices and hands receive generous lume for low-light legibility.

A diving watch with a twist

In essence, the Ushio 300 is a proper dive watch infused with Grand Seiko's signature flair. The undulating dial shapes and gradient colors take their cues from the sea, with 'ushio' meaning 'tide'. Available in blue or green, the latter option stands out for its uniqueness.
